Keynote Speaker: Brooke Eby
CBSA is thrilled to welcome an extraordinary speaker to keynote our 21st Annual Awards Celebration Presented by AGC Biologics on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
Brooke Eby is a 35-year-old woman who was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Initially experiencing symptoms in her left leg at the age of 29, she underwent various medical tests and faced difficulties in receiving a correct diagnosis. When ALS was first suggested, her family dismissed it due to misconceptions about the disease being primarily associated with older individuals. However, after years of symptoms, she was officially diagnosed at the age of 33.
Following her diagnosis, Brooke experienced shock and sadness, but found a turning point at a friend’s wedding where she embraced humor and camaraderie with her friends, despite needing to use a walker at that time. Shortly after, she started a TikTok account to share her ALS journey in a light-hearted and educational manner, gaining a supportive community online.
Brooke aims to raise awareness about ALS, challenging misconceptions that it only affects older individuals and highlighting the need for more understanding and support for younger people living with the disease. She emphasizes the lack of a cure for ALS and the limited effectiveness of current treatments in extending life expectancy.
Through her journey and advocacy efforts, Brooke sheds light on the challenges faced by individuals living with illnesses and the importance of raising awareness and support for research into diseases like ALS. Our Annual Awards Celebration honors individuals like Brooke, emphasizing the importance of community support and collaboration in advancing healthcare innovations and improving the lives of individuals affected by diseases.
Brooke’s keynote will be the highlight of an incredible celebration, toasting the achievements of Colorado’s life sciences community.
