It’s an honor to host Kathleen (Kiki) Traylor, M.D., Director, State Government Affairs at Amgen and Chair, CBSA Board of Directors for The Leader Within: Building Your Powerful Career Path.

A longtime leader in Colorado’s life sciences community, Kiki works to advance policies that support health innovation. She’s a physician, former state senator, and respected advocate for health innovation.

The Leader Within, hosted by Medtronic Women’s Network and Colorado BioScience Association (CBSA) is a dynamic speaker series that features some of Colorado’s most respected life sciences leaders in an exclusive setting.

During the virtual session, Kiki will share:

  • How seizing opportunities allowed her to build a powerful career path.
  • Why deep community connections make her a stronger leader.
  • What informs and inspires her collaborative approach to healthcare policy.

Kiki built her powerful career path in Colorado. A physician and former Colorado State Senator, she manages state government affairs for Amgen in 17 states. Her work focuses on building coalitions to create consensus on healthcare policy. She’s a trusted voice and advocate at statehouses in the regions she serves, offering a unique perspective on innovation, patient health and healthcare delivery gained from her background caring for patients and representing constituents.

She joined the Amgen State Government Affairs team in 2007 and is based in Colorado. She leads Colorado BioScience Association’s work to champion the health and growth of life sciences in Colorado as CBSA Board of Directors Chair. She also serves on the board of Rise Above Colorado. Prior to Amgen, Kiki served as a member of the Colorado State Senate, where she sat on the Health and Human Services and Judiciary Committees.

She actively treated patients for more than 20 years, practicing primary care pediatrics in private practice, hospital-based primary care, insurance-based managed care, and foster care clinic settings. Most recently, she was affiliated with Children’s Hospital Colorado and the University of Colorado School of Medicine (Associate Clinical Professor), where she saw patients in the Foster Care Clinic.

Raised in Denver, she focused on her passion to improve patient health and care. She is a graduate of the University of Colorado School of Medicine (M.D. with Honors) and Stanford University (B.A., Human Biology). Because of her leadership and dedication to Colorado’s life sciences community, CBSA honored her with its Volunteer of the Year Award at the 2022 CBSA Annual Awards Celebration.
