Colorado BioScience Association welcomes Terry Fry, M.D., Executive Director of the Gates Institute and Professor of Pediatrics, Hematology and Immunology at the University of Colorado Anschutz, to our Board of Directors.

An internationally recognized pioneer and leader in CAR T-cell therapy, Dr. Fry has helped transform breakthrough science into life-saving treatments that can produce lasting remission, and, for some patients with blood cancers, offer the possibility of a cure.

His career has focused on advancing new treatment approaches for pediatric leukemia and other difficult-to-treat cancers across academic research, clinical care, biotechnology, and federal research. At the Gates Institute, he leads work to move scientific discoveries toward clinical use. In 2026, the institute received FDA clearance for the first CAR T-cell therapy developed entirely on the CU Anschutz campus to enter clinical testing in the United States.

Through his leadership with the Gates Institute and CU Anschutz, Dr. Fry has been closely involved in building Colorado’s capabilities in cell and gene therapy, including translational infrastructure, manufacturing capacity, IND-enabling work, and early clinical development.

His experience will strengthen CBSA’s efforts to connect the state’s innovation ecosystem, elevate Colorado’s reputation as a global hub for health innovation, and accelerate discoveries that improve, extend, and save patients’ lives.
