national economic development campaign
and relocating to Colorado in late 2025, the
team quickly discovered that researchers,
founders, investors, and manufacturers
operate within an environment where
collaboration happens naturally, acceler
ating the journey from scientific discovery
to human impact.
“It’s incredibly easy to meet people, ask
questions, and get support,” says Childs.
“At Fitzsimons Innovation Community, we
are surrounded by people who work in
totally different scientific fields, but we
can all share ideas.”
That infrastructure has fueled rapid growth.
Over the past year, Intero has doubled its
team while expanding its laboratory capa
bilities. Support from Colorado’s Advanced
Industries Accelerator Grant Program
provided critical non-dilutive funding at a
time when many early-stage companies face
increasing pressure to rely on venture capital.
Yet the company’s defining milestone
unfolded away from the spotlight.
“The most meaningful moment was when
we shipped our first product to a large
pharmaceutical company, and they got
great results and ordered more,” Childs
recalls. “Seeing something that started
in graduate school become a tool that’s
helping people make better healthcare
decisions is incredibly rewarding.”
That milestone showed how years of
research can redefine drug development
and accelerate therapies to patients. For
Colorado, it is proof of what happens
when breakthrough science meets an
ecosystem built to move it forward.
